Brawl in Cell Block 99(2017)

After working as a drug courier and getting into a brutal shootout with police, a former boxer finds himself at the mercy of his enemies as they force him to instigate violent acts that turn the prison he resides in into a battleground.

This is a fuck-you brutal film with great characters. The prison scene with the queue where he has to leave off his ring? Perfect.

Annihilation(2018)

A biologist signs up for a dangerous, secret expedition into a mysterious zone where the laws of nature don't apply.

More movies like this please. The cast, the plot, the unknown. One of the best sci-fi EVER. Tried the books - not so good in my opinion.

Anniversary(2025)

When Ellen and Paul’s son Josh introduces his new girlfriend at their 25th anniversary party, no one suspects that it is the beginning of the end for this happy family. The new girlfriend is Liz, Ellen’s former student, who left the university, some years before, after Ellen called her out in class for her radical ideology.

Such a surprise movie. I love that they even made it. After watching Send Hepl, I am really starting to like Dylan O'Brien.

The Rover(2014)

The realism is what gets me. Just one man going at it alone.

Love this. Not well received and I don't understand why. It is special and has a special mood.

Taking place after alien crafts land around the world, an expert linguist is recruited by the military to determine whether they come in peace or are a threat.

Apart from Contact and Close Encounter of the Third Kind, this is the primary alien first contact movie.

Prisoners(2013)

After his six-year-old daughter is abducted, a desperate father takes justice into his own hands when he loses faith in the detective leading the investigation, setting both men on a collision course as the search descends into obsession and moral compromise.

Obsession(2026)

After breaking the mysterious "One Wish Willow" to win his crush's heart, a hopeless romantic finds himself getting exactly what he asked for but soon discovers that some desires come at a dark, sinister price.

Love how the director portrays her getting caught in the spell and battling it internally.

Looper(2012)

In the year 2044, time travel has not yet been invented but in 30 years it will have been. When the mob wants to get rid of someone, they will send their target into the past where a looper, a hired gun, like Joe is waiting to mop up. Joe is getting rich and life is good until the day the mob decides to close the loop, sending back Joe's future self for assassination.

Love this. Re-watch at least once a year.

Perfume: The Story of a Murderer(2006)

Jean-Baptiste Grenouille, born in the stench of 18th century Paris, develops a superior olfactory sense, which he uses to create the world's finest perfumes. However, his work takes a dark turn as he tries to preserve scents in the search for the ultimate perfume.

One of the better movies I've ever seen.

Valhalla Rising(2010)

Scandinavia, 1,000 AD. For years, One Eye, a mute warrior of supernatural strength, has been held prisoner by the Norse chieftain Barde. Aided by Are, a boy slave, One Eye slays his captor and together he and Are escape, beginning a journey into the heart of darkness. On their flight, One Eye and Are board a Viking vessel, but the ship is soon engulfed by an endless fog that clears only as the crew sights an unknown land. As the new world reveals its secrets and the Vikings confront their terrible and bloody fate, One Eye discovers his true self.

You can say what you want but this is one of my ever faves.

Mr. Right(2016)

A girl falls for the "perfect" guy, who happens to have a very fatal flaw: he's a hitman on the run from the crime cartels who employ him.

Whimsical, cute and Anna Kendriks AND Rockwell. Rewatch: yes.

Age of Uprising: The Legend of Michael Kohlhaas(2013)

In the 16th century in the Cévennes, a horse dealer by the name of Michael Kohlhaas leads a happy and prosperous family life. When a lord treats him unjustly, this pious, upstanding man raises an army and puts the country to fire and sword in order to have his rights restored.

Love this under-the-rader high-hitting movie.

Dune(1984)

Logan(2017)

Love this movie. They meet a family, get embroiled with a rivalry family and Logan shows his koach.He brings forth his tank top and fearlessness. And the initial scene with the hubcaps should be enough to seat everyone in their... seats.
